One of the first people on the scene of a bus crash near Rotorua in which five Chinese tourists died says the situation was awful.
The bus was on its way to Rotorua yesterday morning when police say the driver failed to navigate a "moderate-to-easy" bend in poor weather conditions, and the bus flipped its side.
Two passengers were seriously hurt and airlifted to hospital, and four others have moderate injuries. Bishal Basnet told reporter Jordan Bond he was driving on State Highway 5 with his brother and uncle when he saw people in distress waving down cars.
