Weather: St Heliers roofs ripped off by tornado

From Morning Report, 6:08 am on 12 August 2019

A violent tornado ripped through the Auckland suburb of St Heliers on Sunday night, lifting roofs and bringing down trees. Fire and Emergency say they have a dozen reports of houses being damaged.

The storm also lifted the roof at the Cloud events centre on Auckland's Queen's Wharf although it is unclear how much damage has been done to the waterfront building.

RNZ reporter Emma Hatton spoke to Northern Fire Service shift manager Daniel Nicolson just after 5.30am.
