Ex-Race Relations Commissioner asked for hate crime register

A former race relations commissioner says he repeatedly asked the Government to create a central system for recording hate crimes but was told it wasn't necessary. The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination also raised concerns about the lack of records in 2007 and repeated those call in 2017, calling it a priority.
