Torrential rain cause slips, evacuations in Westland

From Morning Report, 7:16 am on 27 March 2019

Torrential rain has caused havoc on the West Coast of the South Island. A state of emergency is in place in Westland as the coast is pounded with up to 800 millimetres of rain. There are widespread flooding and slips, rivers are at record levels, and highways are closed. Haast is experiencing a one-in-100-year flood, and on Tuesday fifteen people had to stay the night at a welfare centre. Westland's mayor Bruce Smith speaks to Susie Ferguson.
