'A huge loss' - Maier, Hess mourned after Aoraki avalanche

Wolfgang Maier, one of two men killed in the avalanche near Aoraki Mt Cook on Wednesday, has been described as one of the country's top mountain guides. Wolfgang Maier along with Martin Hess died while descending Mt Hicks early on Wednesday morning. Their climbing partner Jo Morgan was also buried but managed to dig her way out and raise the alarm.
