Weather chaos: Thousands without power in Auckland

Tens of thousands of people are without power in Auckland this morning as a severe storm continues to batter the city. Vector says more than 100,000 homes have had power outages overnight. MetService says wind gusts of up to 150km/h buffetted the city on Tuesday night. A tree fell on a car in Morningside, trapping a woman in the vehicle. She was taken to hospital with moderate injuries. Auckland airport suspended flights last night it is now open again. NIWA says the winds were equivalent to a category one cyclone.
