Cyclone Gita: Fiji wakes to assess damage

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 14 February 2018

Fiji's Red Cross says it has concerns for people on Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa in the Southern Lau islands which were swiped by Cyclone Gita. Communication was cut to the islands when Gita passed on Tuesday afternoon, buffeting the low lying atolls with winds gusting at 275km/h.

The cyclone warning for much of the Lau group was cancelled when Gita veered south. But communications with Ono-i-lau and Vatoa which are home to 800 people are not expected to be re-established until Thursday.
