Foggy rage descends on Wellington airport

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 30 March 2017

More than 100 flights into and out of Wellington were cancelled yesterday because of fog.

Our reporter Jacob McSweeny updates the situation from the airport this morning.

Many passengers spent the night in the terminal curled up under thin polyester blankets.

After flights were cancelled, passengers were told to ring their airlines and re-book.

But, some said Air New Zealand's phone lines repeatedly crashed.

Wellingtonian Jeff Weir went to the airport last night to offer a bed to a couple of stranded passengers.

Among those stranded by the fog was Vickie Davis of Ngatimoti near Nelson.

She stepped up to help out some of the other passengers who needed a bit of extra help.
