Civil Defence says 60 people are being housed in emergency accommodation and it expects that number to grow as property inspections are done throughout the day.

A further 150 people have evacuated their homes and are staying with friends or whānau.

The Emergency Management Minister, Kiritapu Allan, this morning announced the Government will provide $100,000 to the mayoral disaster relief fund to help support those affected.

Ms Allan has been visiting the areas most impacted and spoke to our Napier reporter, Tom Kitchin.
