State of Emergency as constant rain floods in Southland

From Lately, 10:20 pm on 4 February 2020

The whole of Southland is now in a state of emergency because of extensive flooding after two days of heavy rain.

With more water on the way, there's the chance of a one-in-one-hundred-year event when rivers surge tomorrow, and a 50-percent chance the Mataura River could rise to levels not seen since 1984.

Bryan Crump speaks with Southland's mayor Gary Tong about what's happening and what's expected overnight.
