Fiordland remains under a state of Emergency tonight, with hundreds of tourists and workers trapped at Milford Sound and Hollyford after torrential rain caused slips, rockfalls and washouts on the only road into Milford.

There are 120 people sheltering in three private lodges on the Milford Track, and Bryan Crump speaks with Shaun Liddy from Ultimate Hikes who operate the lodges.

And while there's a state of emergency declared in Fiordland after flooding cut off the only road out of Milford, fire  crews have been battling at blazes near Lake Tekapo and in Canterbury.
