There are an estimated 1.5million guns in this country and that is more per capita than most countries.
More than 200,000 New Zealanders hold a gun licence but no one really knows what weapons are out there because individual firearms are not registered.
Gun users and collectors say New Zealand has some of the best gun laws anywhere, but others say that unless ownership rules are tightened up, New Zealand runs the risk of increased crime and copy-cat shootings.
