New Zealand has the chair of the Pacific Island Forum for the next year and has just played host to the annual leader’s summit as the regional grouping marked it’s 40th anniversary.
But as the Melanesian nations, including Fiji, chart their own course, is the Forum achieving anything? Do Pacific countries care anymore?
Megan Whelan was at the gathering in Auckland and considers the way ahead.
