New Zealand is home to around 16-thousand overstayers - immigrants who don't have an official permit to live or work here but stay on illegally.

The issue came to the fore recently when large numbers of overstayers in Auckland were attracted to Gerard Otimi's scheme in which he was allegedly selling visas based on the promise his Maori tribe would adopt them.

In this programme Richard Pamatatau talks to some overstayers about the choice they've made and the implications of living outside the law.
