Willis: supports a code of conduct for lobbyists

From First Up, 5:46 am on 4 April 2023

The government is looking at overhauling how political lobbyists operate, and has already removed swipe card access to Parliament for more than 80 of them. It comes after an RNZ series that showed a lack of transparency in the country's lobbying industry, and follows revelations that Minister Stuart Nash shared confidential Cabinet information with people who'd provided him with financial donations. Prime Minister Chris Hipkins yesterday announced a review which will consider how lobbying can be regulated. He also called for lobbyists to come up with a voluntary code of conduct; and said their Parliamentary swipe cards will no longer work.
