Last week First Up revealed that the Grant Chateau Tongariro would no longer take new bookings. Yesterday the company which runs the iconic building announced it wouldn't be renewing its lease, after a seismic assessment found it no longer meets safety standards. 36 jobs will go as the property is handed back to the Department of Conservation, which owns the land.
