The government has unveiled a new package to support businesses in the wake of the death of Sandringham shopkeeper Janak Patel. It includes 4 million dollars to match council spending on crime prevention; expanding the Retail Crime Prevention fund to include aggrevated robberies committed in the past year; AND providing a 4-thousand dollar subsidy for shop owners to install fog cannons, regardless of whether or not they've been the victim of crime. It follows a heated protest outside the electorate office of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern yesterday, while dairies around the country closed their doors in solidarity. Our producer Leonard Powell was there.
