Pressure on emergency vets exacerbated by pandemic

A surge in pet owners due to the pandemic coupled with the rising cost of living, covid and a shortage of skilled staff has led to severely busy times for vets. Fiona Park is managing director of the Animal Referral Centre in Auckland. They provide specialist level care for pets and are an accident and emergency centre for animals after hours. She told First Up producer Ellie Jay they've seen a huge increase in demand for emergency care coupled with a shortage of skilled professionals exacerbated by the pandemic.
