A person died at Lyttelton Port yesterday while coal was being loaded onto a ship; that is the second tragedy at one of the country's ports in less than a week. Lyttelton Port Company said the incident took place on the vessel ETG Aquarius while it was berthed at Cashin Quay. Last Tuesday 26-year-old Atiroa Tuaiti lost his life at Ports of Auckland. While an investigation into his death is underway, it's thought that Atiroa fell while working on a container ship. This prompted a call from the Maritime Union for a nationwide inquiry into port safety ...Nathan Rarere spoke with the union's national secretary, Craig Harrison.
