Shift to orange traffic light setting opens in time for Easter

From First Up, 5:49 am on 14 April 2022

New Zealand is now in the orange Covid traffic light setting meaning no more limits to gathering numbers - be they outdoors or indoors - and the end of the seated and separated rule. Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins announced the changes yesterday. Face masks are where things get a little complicated .. they are still encouraged but no longer required in some settings - including in schools. But masks must still be worn on public transport, in retail outlets and in public facilities like libraries ... while staff must continue to wear masks in close-proximity businesses like hairdressers, and at hospitality and events venues. For full details please see the Covid-19 website. Nathan Rarere discussed the move with Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and began by asking why the government seems so confident we won't see another spike in case numbers.
