Govt scraps plans for separate cycle bridge over AK Harbour
The government has scrapped its plan to build a 785 million dollar cycling and pedestrian bridge over Auckland's Waitemata Harbour. A contentious proposal from its inception, it was the met with criticism from opposition parties and cycling advocates alike. One of them was cycling enthusiast and author David Slack. For him, it was a bad idea in the first place and perhaps some real consideration can be given to what many are calling for - opening up a lane of the existing Harbour Bridge to cyclists.
