Pregnant women should be categorised as urgent for MiQ spots
People will be able to vie for the next tranche of MIQ spots which become available tomorrow afternoon. It'll be just their second opportunity since the country was plunged into the Alert Level 4 lockdown on the 18th of August - the first saw over 30,000 people bid for just 3000 rooms. Among them will be Roshni Sami and her husband, Walt, who are expecting a baby in December. The couple had been working in the United States but returned home to New Zealand last year. Walt needed to go back to the US to tie up loose ends like selling their cars but now, with MIQ spots a rare commodity, it's unclear whether he'll be able to get back for the birth of his first child. Roshni explained the situation to our producer Matthew Theunissen.
