No stranger to isolation, Richard Walle on Little Barrier

From First Up, 5:39 am on 6 September 2021

Now we're hearing from a man who is no stranger to a bit of isolation. Richard Walle is a ranger on Hauturu-o-Toi, Little Barrier Island, where he's been stationed for ten years. His biggest concerns are weed control and keeping the island predator free but under levels 3 and 4 there can be no visitors, no volunteer groups, no research parties - it is just Richard and his son Liam on the island. Our producer Ellie Jay asked him what it's like living on the island.
