Residents of far flung NZ coping well with lockdown

From First Up, 5:45 am on 25 August 2021

While the main news about the Delta outbreak has centred around Auckland and Wellington, First Up's Matthew Theunissen hit the phones yesterday to find out how people are coping on some of New Zealand's outer reaches. Matt's first call was to the Chatham Islands, where he spoke with Melody Lanauze from the Dough and Go store. He started by asking whether stock's still being delivered on time. Next up was a call to Maureen Jones on Stewart Island. She told Matthew while islanders are still waiting for their second vaccines, life was carrying on. Back on the North Island and in the Far North, the community is helping each other, delivering groceries to the elderly and leaving parcels on doorsteps. Mike Butler from Moerewa, around three hours drive north of Auckland, told Matthew if people run out of things to do.. it's a good time of the year to get out in the garden.
