Still significant risk of Covid variants before borders open
No significant reopening of New Zealand's border will happen until early next year, and not before our vaccine programme has been rolled out. We remain in danger of a Covid-19 outbreak similar to New South Wales, and quarantine free travel should only be accessible to those who are fully vaccinated. These recommendations all come as part of a report tabled to the Government a short time ago by a group of experts including epidemiologist Professor David Skegg. Matthew Theunissen reports on the the highlights. Nathan Rarere spoke with University of Auckland physics professor and Covid-19 modeller Shaun Hendy, who was one of the advisors to Sir David Skegg and his team.
