Petition organisers want film on Mosque attack shut down

From First Up, 5:50 am on 14 June 2021

A petition calling for a Hollywood film about the Christchurch mosque attacks to be shut down, has now gathered close to 60-thousand signatures The film, They Are Us, has garnered strong criticism because it appears to centre on Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the aftermath of the attacks rather than of the victims themselves. She is set to be played by Australian actor Rose Byrne. Family members of some of those killed in the attacks have called for the film's producers to pull the plug on the project, which they say is being done without proper consultation with the people affected. National Islamic Youth Association co-chair Sondos Quraan was one of the people who started the petition. She spoke with our producer Matthew Theunissen and started by explaining her connection to what happened on March 15, 2019.
