The penalty for using a mobile phone will nearly double at the end of the month as the government tries to curb the high number of injuries and deaths caused by phone use. Transport Minister Michael Wood announced this morning that increasing the infringement fee to 150 dollars from 80 dollars will bring it into line with similar offences and send a signal to drivers that driving while on the phone is not okay. Ellie Jay asked the minister why this move is necessary.
