Covid-19:Another MIQ breach, guest returns positive 12-day test

From First Up, 5:53 am on 26 March 2021

Health officials are urgently trying to contact 250 returnees who've already completed managed isolation after a major botch up at the Grand Mercure MIQ facility in Auckland. Checkpoint revealed yesterday that a guest who was bussed to an exercise area away from the hotel returned a positive day 12 covid test result while out walking - but was still loaded back on the bus with other returnees. The guest had been on another exercise bus two days earlier. That's meant 23 other returnees have had their isolation stays extended by up to 14 extra days. Among them is a Doctor who told Lisa Owen she's deeply concerned about what she sees as sloppy and potentially dangerous protocols. Nathan Rarere spoke with University of Otago epidemiologist Michael Baker.
