Police share details 'PPE on steroids' body recovery
A police officer has described the "PPE on steroids" recovery of a man's body who died at sea while on a cargo vessel travelling to New Plymouth. Amid covid-19 fears, the crew member -- from Wuhan, China -- was extracted from the Hong Kong-registered Yangtze Happiness by a Search and Rescue 'disaster victim identification unit' when it docked at Port Taranaki in June last year. Sergeant Terry Johnson - who heads up policing at the port -- spoke to our Taranaki Whanganui reporter Robin Martin. He asked him to describe what happened when the ship came into Port Taranaki.
