Goat Island marine reserve encroached by poachers

From First Up, 5:20 am on 3 February 2021

Goat Island locals have been left outraged and bewildered that a group of anglers cast off from the marine reserve's beach and caught one of its large resident snapper. Despite signs everywhere saying that there is no fishing allowed at the country's oldest marine reserve, the Aucklanders set up camp right by the main beach where people set off to go snorkelling to see marine life up-close. "Honorary" Department of Conservation ranger Tony Enderby was called to the scene on Saturday. He spoke to our producer Matthew Theunissen.
