Climate Change Commission: NZ not doing enough to meet targets
The Climate Change Commission says New Zealand is not contributing enough to world-wide efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. The Government has committed to reaching net zero emissions of long-lived gases and to reducing biogenic methane emissions by between 24 and 47 per cent by 2050. Yesterday, the commission released its draft report on the state of New Zealand's climate change battle, and set out three new targets: - a 2 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, - 17 per cent by 2030, - and 36 percent by 2035 The commission's chairperson Dr Rod Carr gave Nathan Rarere a summary of the commission's findings.
