Allocation of MIQ room vouchers unfair, delays travel

From First Up, 5:31 am on 14 December 2020

Rooms in managed isolation have been sitting empty, because some returnees have been able to hold on to more room allocation vouchers than they need. Meanwhile other returnees say they feel stranded and helpless, unable to get a booking until at least late February. It's mandatory to book into the hotels before entering the country, and the government says that it regularly contacts people asking them to delete unwanted vouchers. Some returnees believe there should be a limit on the number of vouchers people can book, or a penalty for unused ones. Dee Edge and her husband are trying to get back from the UK this month after travelling to her house there to salvage it from squatters and sell it. She told our reporter Katie Todd it would be amazing to have one of the spare rooms, having spent weeks looking on the managed isolation booking website with no luck.
