Japanese spacecraft with asteroid rock found in Australia

From First Up, 5:08 am on 7 December 2020

A recovery team in Australia has found the Space Capsule carrying the first large quantities of rock from an asteroid. The samples were collected by a Japanese spacecraft called Hayabusa-2, which spent more than a year investigating an Asteroid known as Ryugu. After successfully securing samples from the space rock, it sent a capsule back to earth, which parachuted down near Woomera in South Australia over the weekend. Australian National University planetary scientist Trevor Ireland was on the scientific team. He told our producer Matthew Theunissen why the ambitious mission is so important.
