New research has found that Maori and Pacific academics in New Zealand universities are paid less and have a significantly lower chance of promotion compared to their colleagues. The authors of the paper "Glass Ceilings in NZ Universities - Inequities in Maori and Pacific promotions and earnings" say the differences could not be explained by factors other than ethnicity and that the inequalities persist over time, particularly for women. Nathan Rarere spoke to the paper's co-author Dr Reremoana Theodore.
