NZ Apples and Pears happy 2000 RSE workers allowed in 2020
An additional 2000 seasonal workers will be allowed into New Zealand next year to address labour shortages in the Horticulture and Wine growing sectors. The Goverment announced the scheme after pressure from growers, who've been struggling to get their crops harvested due to our strict border restrictions. The scheme requires employers to cover the costs of managed isolation and to pay workers the equivalent of a 30-hour work week while they're isolating. After that, they must pay the workers a minimum of 22-dollars an hour. New Zealand Apples and Pears chief executive Alan Pollard has been lobbying the Government to allow seasonal workers into the country and spoke with Nathan Rarere.
