House assessments continue in Napier as weather improves

All eyes will be on the skies in Hawke's Bay this morning after a deluge of rain flooded low-lying suburbs this week. Sixty people had to be evacuated from their homes in Napier and Hastings and stay in emergency accomodation, or with friends and family Hawke's Bay Civil Defence said yesterday that 225 homes have been assessed, and 30 are not fit to live in. Dean Mardon who runs Electric City Music on Dalton St in central Napier had a very worrying time when he got to work on Tuesday morning; while Marewa man Regan McCormack had to pull out all the stops to rescue 700 dollars worth of venison he'd just bought.
