Teachers leading NZ's brain gain
New data detailing the occupations of returning New Zealanders shows teachers are leading the country's brain gain. Airport arrival card information shows teachers top the list of 115 occupations, followed by engineering professionals in the five months from April. Also, almost 100 more labourers than chief executives returned. The president of the Auckland Secondary Principals Association, and Macleans College principal, Steven Hargreaves, told our reporter Amy Williams the number of New Zealand teachers returning from overseas could plug a long-running teacher shortage.
