"Save Canal Rd Native Trees" hikoi begins this morning
A hikoi starts today by a group of Auckland activists hoping to save a number of Native trees from being cut down by developers. 'Save Canal road Native trees' are starting their march at 06:30 from Canal road in Avondale to a meeting of the council at Auckland town hall, they're calling on Mayor Phil Goff and the Auckland council to buy the land the trees stand on and turn it into a public reserve. The Hikoi marks 100 days of campaigning for the group, Zane Wedding is an arborist and activist who has been one of the 'tree sitters' - living up a tree. He spoke with Indira Stewart.
