Auckland in economic recovery despite big job losses

From First Up, 5:09 am on 14 October 2020

Going by the numbers, Auckland is in economic recovery - coming back from the brink after losing over four-thousand jobs during the recent regional lockdown. Auckland Council number-crunchers have tallied the job losses to 200 a day - 50 fewer than forecast for August - but still high. Its chief economist David Norman says the lockdown cost the city 40 million dollars each day during the second round of level three. He told our reporter Amy Williams that Auckland's job losses mounted to 4205 in August, which was 60 percent of the nationwide total.
