Supreme Sikh Society feeds thousands, wins award

From First Up, 5:23 am on 1 October 2020

As job losses wiped out incomes, thousands of Kiwis turned to food banks and they're still in need. The Supreme Sikh Society of New Zealand has been filling that demand with over 66-thousand food parcels provided to families in need since the first lockdown. It all started with bottles of milk and loaves of bread facing expiry, handed out to friends and neighbours, then quickly became a full-time operation. Now the society is a finalist for their selfless service in the New Zealand Food awards which recognises community spirit during the Covid-19 response. Daljit Singh, the spokesperson of the NZ Supreme Sikh Society, told our reporter Louise Ternouth it's a huge honour.
