Weak positive Covid tests prove to be old infections

From First Up, 5:47 am on 24 September 2020

There were three new Covid cases detected in the community yesterday, which are connected to the man who only tested positive for the virus AFTER completing managed isolation. The three were on a charter flight he took from Christchurch to Auckland with 86 people on board, 63 of whom have so far returned a negative test. It's also emerged that Covid-19 was in New Zealand earlier than previously thought after a Waikato man returned a weak positive test this week that was, in fact, an old infection. Five of his family members are being treated as probable historical cases. University of Otago epidemiologist Professor Michael Baker spoke to our producer Matthew Theunissen about these developments.
