New AK harbour crossing should favour public transport

Has Auckland grown too big to depend on its ageing eight lane bridge? The harbour bridge was damaged last week after a freak gust of wind blew a truck into a structurally important load-bearing strut. A temporary fix to the bridge damage has been chosen, and two more central lanes are expected to reopen later this week. Urban designer Dr Lee Beattie from the University of Auckland's School of Architecture and Planning told our reporter Louise Ternouth a new option needs to favour public transport over private vehicles.
