Measles outbreak on the cards after missed immunisations
An immunisation expert says New Zealand must be prepared to cope with outbreaks of measles forecast in countries whose health systems are overwhelmed by Covid-19. Thousands of children have missed their scheduled immunisations because of the pandemic, and Maori are among the worst affected. The director of the Immunisation Advisory Centre, Dr Nikki Turner, told reporter Anusha Bradley the number of children receiving vaccinations on time has fallen by a couple of a percent since March.
