Calls for convicted terrorist to serve sentence in Australia

From First Up, 5:48 am on 28 August 2020

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters wants convicted terrorist Brenton Tarrant sent back to Australia so New Zealand taxpayers don't have to foot the hefty bill for his incarceration. The mass murderer was yesterday sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of ever leaving jail after killing 51 worshippers at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre on March 15 last year. Forty others were injured. It's the harshest sentence ever handed down in New Zealand and came as a relief to members of the Muslim community. And as Louise Ternouth reports, Mr Peters isn't alone in thinking its time for the terrorist to be extradited.
