Plasma from recovered Covid-19 patients could be used to treat newly infected patients. This is known as convalescent plasma, taken from patients who have recovered from the coronavirus, which may provide benefits to those battling with the disease. The New Zealand Blood Service started contacting recovered patients to discuss whether they would be willing to donate their plasma in May. But the evidence has been inconclusive as to how it works or how best to administer it. Jacob Glanville is the head of US company Distributed Bio and has been working on screening to find the best plasma donors.
