Covid causing extra budgeting stress for struggling families

From First Up, 5:37 am on 26 August 2020

An Auckland budgeting and family support service has found some families of four have less than 40 dollars a week to put food on the table. The Mangere Budgeting Service also says many of the people they help are struggling to pay all their bills and are having to chose between rent, power, petrol or food. It comes after a study by the UK Citizens Advice Bureau found a quarter of people who are parents and carers have fallen behind on their household bills as well as one in five key workers. Mangere Budgeting Services CEO, Darryl Evans, says it's happening here too - and he believes the situation will only get worse when the wage subsidy stops.
