Former Silver Fern now cop returns to Netball Premiership

From First Up, 5:33 am on 21 July 2020

The former Silver Ferns shooter Ellen Halpenny is now juggling her new career with her sporting love after returning to the ANZ Netball Premiership. Halpenny walked away from netball a year ago and graduated from Police College late last year and has since been working at the Tokoroa Police office. However the 29 year old answered an SOS call to come out of retirement as injury cover for the Southern Steel. Just hours after meeting her team-mates she helped the Steel to a win over the Magic on Sunday night and last night they weren't quite strong enough to overcome the Tactix. The Steel have lost shooters Georgia Heffernan and Jen O'Connell in the last month and it wasn't long before they got in touch with Halpenny.
