Changing the game to reduce rugby head injuries

Medical researchers are urging World Rugby to try reducing on-field player numbers in a bid to reduce injuries. A UK study into the health of retired rugby and league players has highlighted the long-term impact of cumulative injuries. Concussion was the most frequently reported injury, with the highest recurrence and long-term impact. The Durham University study builds on the original 2015 New Zealand Rugby Health Study. Professor Patria Hume of the Auckland University of Technology led that 2015 study and talked with sports editor Stephen Hewson.
