Auckland Mayor pleased with new water take from Waikato River
An agreement in principle has been reached for Auckland to take more water from the Waikato River. In an interim measure to help ease the regions drought, the city can now take an extra 25 megalitres of water a day from one area, and another 50 megalitres a day from another unused allocation. And while Team New Zealand has denied any wrongdoing in the way it has handled public funds, Auckland's Mayor Phil Goff says investigations and allegations around the America's Cup won't derail the event. Phil Goff told First Up's Indira Stewart he's thrilled about the decision over the Waikato River throwing a lifeline to Auckland's drought crisis and he's pleased to see a thorough investigation taking place in the Team New Zealand scam and fraud allegations.
