National Plan of Action for Seabirds working to zero deaths

The Government has launched a new plan aimed at stopping the thousands of seabird deaths that happen from commercial fishing each year. More seabirds breed in New Zealand waters than anywhere else in the world. But ninety percent of them are nationally threatened or at risk of extinction and data shows that commercial fishing poses a major threat to their survival. The National Plan of Action for Seabirds, released today, has the overall goal of "working toward zero fishing-related seabird deaths". Rachel Thomas reports
